Chondroitin sulfate participates in neuroregulation through its proteoglycan form. Many studies have shown that there are some factors that inhibit regeneration in the local microenvironment after spinal cord injury. Chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (cspgs) are a large group of substances that block axon regeneration. Endogenous cspgs have an inhibitory effect on nerve development and repair after nerve injury. Zhao Wei and other researchers found that the expression of chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan aggrecan in the spinal cord of rats after hemisection of the spinal cord injury was significantly increased compared with the control group, while the expression of cspgs in the adjacent tissues of the spinal cord injury was significantly inhibited by electroacupuncture treatment, thus weakening its inhibitory effect on axon regeneration and promoting the repair of the spinal cord injury. Similarly, some chondroitin sulfate enzymes such as chabc can decompose cspgs to promote the repair of spinal cord injury. In addition, cs can directly alleviate brain injury by reducing the content of monoamine neurotransmitters in brain tissue of chronic alcoholism model rats.
