When choosing fish oil, many friends always don't know what Omega3 is, what is DHA, what is EPA, and how to calculate the concentration? All these problems are clarified here.

First, what is Omega-3?

"Omega-3" or Omega-3 is a group of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which is very beneficial to human health. Omega-3 is a general name. It is also divided into DHA, ALA and EPA. There are mainly three kinds of Omega-3, and some low content ones will not be mentioned. They are Omega-3, but their molecular structure and efficacy are different. When we calculate the concentration of fish oil, we generally use (DHA+EPA+other Omega-3)/total weight of fish oil=fish oil concentration.

What are DHA and EPA?

DHA and EPA are both Omega-3, and their main effects are different: DHA is mainly for nerve regeneration, which helps improve cognitive function, memory and concentration; EPA is mainly anti-inflammation, which can alleviate cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, three-high and arthritis. ALA can help prevent cholesterol deposition in blood vessels, reduce arterial inflammation and inhibit cancer growth.

What are Omega-3, Omega-6 and Omega-9? What's the role?

These three are unsaturated fatty acids. You just need to remember that Omega-3 is necessary and can not be synthesized by yourself, which is very beneficial; Omega-6 is rich in vegetable oil, so it does not need special supplement. On the contrary, eating too much is bad for the body and will induce inflammation; Omega-9 is abundant in animal oil and does not need special supplement. The conclusion is that you should add more Omega-3

What do you eat to supplement Omega-3?

The content of Omega-3 in sea fish (DHA+EPA), seal (DHA+EPA), seaweed (main DHA), flaxseed (main ALA) and Chia seed (directly eating Chia seed is invalid) is relatively high. If you don't live at the seaside and can eat sea fish every day, supplementing fish oil is the most convenient and appropriate method, and seal oil is also available.

How to choose Omega-3 fish oil?

Generally, the concentration of fish oil is about 30%, and 70% of waste oil (similar to lard) is better than nothing. The absorption rate is too low. The recommended concentration is about 60%, with the highest cost performance. The higher the concentration, 85%, 91% and 95% fish oil are also available, but the price will increase several times, which is not cost-effective.

How to choose if the proportion of DHA and EPA is different?

The proportion of DHA among students preparing for exams, pregnant women, and brainpower election is high; EPA has a high proportion of protection for cardio-cerebrovascular diseases.
